the Story

"

She didn't just admire the anchors on screen — she studied them.

Crain's Chicago Business 40 Under 40
Growing up in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, Samantha spent her childhood watching ABC 7 News, the #1 station in the city. She didn't just admire the anchors on screen, she studied them. Samantha decided early, and with confidence, that this would be her life's work. Decades later, she sits at that same anchor desk, for the same station, in the city that made her: God’s grace and favor!

Samantha is a Weekend Morning Anchor and Consumer Investigative Reporter at ABC 7 Chicago. Her work is driven by a simple conviction: communities deserve journalists who dig deep, tell the truth and show up — for the hard stories and the human ones alike.
Before Chicago, Samantha built her career market by market, starting at WEEK-TV in Peoria, where she served as an MMJ, Anchor and Weekend Weather Anchor. She moved to WDRB-TV in Louisville as a Business Reporter, and then to KXAS-TV, the NBC-owned station in Dallas, where she earned her first Emmy Award for her consumer investigative work. She returned home to Chicago in 2019, joining the station she'd dreamt about since childhood.

Beyond the newsroom, Samantha is a creator and connector. Her YouTube talk show, Mama, I Made It!®, brings together culture, success and candid conversation — featuring interviews with Kelly Rowland, Derrick Rose, Tina Knowles, Common, Ice Cube, Don Lemon, Tamron Hall and more.

She is also the author of "Mia Gets Sick, But Doesn't Quit" (2022), a children’s book born from the resilience of the pandemic years, with proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish Illinois.
02 / Real Impact

Reporting that moves  law, not just headlines.

When Samantha's reporting helped bring attention to a decades-long gap in Illinois law around home trespassers, it contributed directly to the passage of the Illinois Squatter Law — giving law enforcement the authority to act and restoring security to residents across the state.

It’s the work of #SamOnYourSide: investigative journalism that returns money, provides answers and demands accountability for viewers.
